Story Behind the Art: The idea for Balm of Gilead came to me shortly after Japan was hit by the catastrophic tsunami in March of 2011. I was moved by how much suffering I saw. This painting depicts Christ’s Second Coming when, after great destruction and upheaval, Christ will heal us. There are two scriptures inscribed at the bottom of the original painting: “O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colors” (Isaiah 54:11) and “I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee” (2 Kings 20:5). This painting is a testimony to the power of Christ to become our personal Balm of Gilead. - Annie Henrie Nader
